The use of carbon fiber materials to manufacture modules is another direction for the development of CUBING's lightweight technology. Compared with 3D printing technology, carbon fiber material is more suitable for large modules, and its technical properties such as strength, hardness, service life, and dimensional stability are better than those of high-strength aluminum alloys, but how to obtain large carbon fiber parts with high dimensional accuracy has always been a problem.

After the success of the 3D printing technology, PROS and SAIC Volkswagen began to study the carbon fiber molding technology, and selected the sliding door of the MPV as the research object.

There are two most critical technical problems need to find the solution.

One is the composite molding of carbon fiber and metal parts, and the other is the dimensional accuracy of carbon fiber parts. It needs to meet the accuracy requirements.

Due to the advanced nature of its technology, this research is also the annual science and technology project of SAIC Volkswagen Group.

Carbon fiber

Molded with high-modulus carbon fiber, the final module weighs the same as the physical door. The project has not only been recognized by SAIC Volkswagen. It also won the 2018 SAIC VOLKSWAGEN Annual Technology Excellence Award, as well as participated in the 2018 Volkswagen Asia Pacific Technology Exhibition (Beijing), and the SAIC GROUP TECH-SHOW in 2019.
